When you think about the word Vision, what do you think about?
Well according to the Webster’s dictionary, the definition of vision is the act or power of seeing.
Thus, a vision board is when you place images, words, quotes etc. on a board as a collage representing a visual path for your goals, dreams and desires.
Usually, people do vision boards at the beginning of the year because that is usually when New Year’s resolutions are made; thus, one has a chance to change or accomplish something new in the coming year.
Vision Board Parties are considered the way to invite friends and associates to participate in an activity with the host.
I have been doing Vision Board parties for the past four (4) years from my home. What started out as a fun way to bring my friends together has become an annual anticipated event.
Not only was it just a fun time, but we saw our visions come to pass.
Below are some tools & ideas to the success and satisfaction I have had at my Vision Board Parties:
First, the following items are required to create a Vision Board:
A board - This could be a poster, foam, or bulletin board. This boards can be found at local or online stores such as Walmart or Amazon. Here is the link to some on Amazon (so you can save yourself a trip to the store): https://amzn.to/3locGjK; https://amzn.to/2QaYv5X;
Magazines, Newspapers and/or printed images off your computer – Do you have any of these things at home? Look there first. If not, try going to your library as they have old magazines that they are willing to give you for FREE. You will not find all the images you are looking for in one magazine so please get a few for each person.
Scissors- You will need this to cut out the images and words to configure them on your board. Check Amazon link here: https://amzn.to/3bQuUHe
Glue sticks- While you can use liquid glue, I find that glue sticks are better because it does not take as long to dry and is less messy than liquid glue. Check Amazon link here: https://amzn.to/38OrrXX
Markers and or crayons- If you cannot find the certain words you are looking for to place on your vision board, you can use markers or crayons to write them on your board. Check Amazon link here: https://amzn.to/38Mv4xw; https://amzn.to/3cBu4xo;
Note: the possibilities are endless to what you can use to make your vision board ‘pop’. So whatever supplies you want to use for color and creativity, go ahead and get them. Let your imagination have a field day!
For A Vision Board Party:
Have refreshments – whether you as the host supply it all or you ask your guest to pitch in, remember that a party is nothing without refreshments of some sort.
Have a background music playlist- You do not want to have complete silence in the background while everyone is working on their Vision Board.
Insights About Vision Board Parties:
It does take a few hours at the party for everyone to go through the process of creating their Vision Board. Remember this when setting your party time and expectations. You might want to ask them to cut out their images ahead of time.
Making a vision board might be new to some at your event. Make sure you explain the process to them.
This is a messy activity, be prepared to clean up a lot afterwards.
You can add other fun activities to the event to create community, foster new relationships and inspire people. (E.g.: An ice-breaker game, worship, prayer, dancing, board presentations, fellowship time).
Post-party, depending on who was at your party, you might want to create an accountability group or have partners so you can keep each other in check throughout the year about your goals.
Vision board parties are not only for women, but men and couples. I have found that while not all men are interested in partaking in this activity, men who are ‘creative’ really enjoy it. Couples can do it separately and/or together as they might have individual goals and they might have couple goals for the year.
Vision boards should be placed where the creator will see it every day. This will help them to keep it at the front of their mind all the time so they consciously & subconsciously begin to manage their goals.
The tips above will help you to get started on having a successful vision board party. Just remember to have FUN & MAKE IT YOUR OWN!
I believe my vision board party has been as successful as it is every year because I am purposeful about every detail, from the people I invite, to the programs of events for the night. Every year it has gotten better and better and everyone has left blessed, excited and encouraged. The networking that takes place is only God. We have seen business partnerships, friendships and more birthed out of the vision board parties, not to mention having testimonies of visions coming to pass during that year. All Glory to God!! So, from my experience I believe I have the secret sauce and while I can’t give it all away (smile) I want you to come and experience it for yourself.
